April 2012: Shireen Eckhardt
“My husband Jeff and I would stroll over to Kitty Corner after breakfast on Sunday mornings to play with the kitties through the window. When we realized that it would be much more fun to be on the inside with these guys so we could actually pet a real tail and tummy, we decided to become volunteers with Contra Costa Humane Society (CCHS). And we ARE having more fun – we even spend some of our ‘Friday date nights’ at Kitty Corner!” Shireen gets great satisfaction helping to socialize the cats so they can get adopted faster and offers this great advice to new adoptive parents:

- Make sure you have enough time in your life to give the care and attention a kitty deserves
- Have a calm place for their transition into their new home….be patient if they hide at first!!
- Be prepared to give plenty of love…………it will come back to you tenfold.

An Operational Excellence Advisor with Chevron Corporation, Shireen is a participant of their Humankind program. In 2011, Kitty Corner received a matching donation from Chevron for Shireen’s financial contributions as well as two Chevron “Grants For Good” donations totaling $1,000 for Shireen’s volunteer hours.
When asked what her fantasy dream job would be, Shireen, who was a geology major in college, replied “to own and operate a jewelry supply shop.” She makes her own jewelry and attends the Gem and Mineral Show every year in Tuscon, AZ.
Thank you, Shireen and Jeff!
