How can you help?
There are many opportunities to volunteer with CCHS. Please read each program and find your best fit.
Thank you for your support!
Please note that we are currently unable to accept volunteers who are looking for court-ordered community service hours.
Kitty Corner is our on site free roaming cat shelter. We care for cats of all age ranges and needs. Volunteers spend time getting to know each of our cats daily during cleaning and socialization time. Volunteer shifts at Kitty Corner are available seven days a week at varying times.
AniMeals Pet Food Bank
The goal of the AniMeals Pet Food Bank program is to help financially challenged families and individuals keeps their pets in the home and out of shelters. CCHS volunteers transport pet food from our pantry location to Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano distribution sites and provide to those in need three times each month. Volunteers also collect food from donations bins in pet supply or other locations and transport it to the CCHS office or pantry for processing.
Foster Home Provider
You can help provide a homeless animal the time it needs to find a forever home! As a foster, you’ll provide a loving environment as well as transportation to the veterinarian and to monthly adoption events. CCHS provides food, medical care and necessary supplies associated with fostering. Find out more about fostering!
Volunteers work in weekly weekday shifts of 2-4 hours to answer and direct calls, provide assistance or referrals to callers, and return general messages. Volunteers may also assist in clerical work as needed – such as mailings, filing, and keeping track of inventory – and other projects that benefit CCHS programs and animals.
Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)
Our SNAP program provides financial assistance to low-income county residents to help spay or neuter their animals at one of our partnering veterinary hospitals. Volunteers will help to answer and return phone calls, qualify applicants based on income, provide information and referral services, as well as handle calls on feral cat care.
