Cats and Kittens
CCHS operates three separate, distinct adoption programs for cats, and each have slightly different requirements. Meet the cats in all three of these programs currently up for adoption in the Adoption Gallery.
Help us find homes for our lovable, adoptable adult cats! During this busy kitten season, many wonderful adults are overlooked and passed by for furry little kittens. Shelters are overrun, and as many of our fellow rescue agencies are finding, kitten season brings with it a decrease in adult-cat adoptions. To try to help find homes for these great adults, therefore freeing up space so that at-risk adults at county shelters can come join us at CCHS, we are offering special Summer Feline Frenzy adoption fees! Now through August 31st, all cats over the age of 6 months will be adoptable for a fee of $40.00. Adopt two lovely felines and the fee is $70.00! Don't miss out on this great opportunity to add a lovable furry feline to your family!
Adoption Program
Cats available through CCHS's Adoption Program are those that our organization obtains from Contra Costa County Animal Services (the public shelter) in Martinez or Pinole. These cats are made available to rescue groups for any number of reasons (e.g., bottle babies, needing medical attention, needing behavioral attention, not enough interest from the public, elderly, etc.). Animal Services tries very hard to find homes for all of these cats, but the sheer volume of animals surrendered on a daily basis makes this a very difficult feat for them to do by themselves.
Adoption Program cats are placed in CCHS foster homes and given the care needed to re-adjust to life in a home. Once ready, they are placed as available for adoption to the public.
Adopting one cat or kitten through this program costs $80.00, and adopting two cats or kittens costs $140.00. All of the cats available through our Adoption Program are spayed or neutered, microchipped, de-wormed and given age-appropriate vaccinations for their new home. Oftentimes, further medical care has been given, such as flea treatment, heartworm treatment, deworming, stool samples, or specific surgeries. On average, CCHS invests over $250.00 per cat, which includes their food, treats, toys, litter, supplies and medical treatment. Your minimal adoption fee helps to offset some of these costs and ensures funding for other cats in need of care through our programs. Kitty Corner
Kitty Corner is a new program operated by CCHS in partnership with Contra Costa County Animal Services. As a private shelter Kitty Corner houses adult, senior, and special needs cats that are owned by Contra Costa County Animal Services. Kitty Corner serves to provide more off-site space for these cats in order to increase their chances of adoption and help to off-load some of the feline frenzy that fills the public shelter during kitten season in particular.
Kitty Corner cats are available for adoption to the public and are spayed/neutered, microchipped and current on vaccines. All cats are subject to Animal Services' adoption fees and accordances. These cats are housed on CCHS premises and can be met by appointment (to ensure someone is in the office to unlock the shelter). Please call our office at (925) 279-2247, ext. 303. At the current time, meetings can be accommodated during normal business hours of Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. In the coming months and as we become more fully staffed with volunteer adoption coordinators, weekend and after-hours adoption times will be added.
Available cats are subject to Animal Services pricing, which includes adoption, spay/neuter fees, microchipping, vaccinations, and licensing (excluded for Antioch and non-Contra Costa County adopters). Prices range from $70-$90 for a male cat (less if the cat was previously neutered) and $90-$110 for a female cat (less if the cat was previously spayed).
Re-Homing Program
CCHS's Re-Homing Program is a service provided to the public when they can no longer care for their companion cats and dogs. Oftentimes, a situation arises in which an animal must be re-homed, and after exploring all other options, CCHS will post a photo and biography of the companion animal available for re-homing. These are not animals in CCHS foster care; rather, CCHS acts as a third-party advertising method for the animal.
All Re-Homing Program animals are spayed/neutered and current on their vaccines. If you are interested in adopting a cat available through CCHS's Re-Homing Program, please complete an Adoption Application. Once received, we'll conduct a brief phone interview and if it seems like a good match, your contact information will be given to the cat's guardian, who will call to set up a meeting time and who will make the final adoption decision.
Adoption fees are determined by the cat's guardian. CCHS typically recommends an adoption fee of $50-$100.
