Adopt
At Contra Costa Humane Society, we want to be sure every animal has the most compatible human companion.
Some of the animals that we help have special needs or particular temperaments, so we work hard to ensure that we assess your needs also. Find out if a current adoptable could be your perfect match in either the dog or cat adoption gallery.CCHS lists adoptable animals through three different programs:
Adoption Program: Available animals have been pulled from local animal shelters and placed in CCHS-approved foster homes until such time that they can be adopted. These animals are spayed/neutered before adoption, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. Find out more about the adoption program for cats/kittens or about the adoption program for dogs/puppies.
Re-Homing Program: CCHS acts as an advertising resource for members of the public who have to re-home their companion dog or cat.
Kitty Corner: A private, on-site shelter, Kitty Corner houses adult cats owned by Contra Costa County Animal Services and adopts them to members of the public. These cats are subject to Animal Services' adoption fees. All cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
How does the adoption process work?
First, browse the dogs and cats we have available for adoption. Each program has specifics about the adoption process, detailed on each dog and cat page.
Please note that for Adoption Program animals, we typically do not allow same-day adoptions unless approved beforehand. Please be prepared to meet the animal and spend time discussing a potential adoption with all household members after meeting the animal.
