Animal Abuse & Neglect Inquiries

It is the goal of all animal rescue groups to ensure that animals are treated humanely and with respect.  However, as all humane societies and SPCAs are separate organizations, not each has the authority within their county to investigate and prosecute cases of animal abuse and neglect.

CCHS receives many inquiries on such cases for which we are able to answer questions and offer advice, however, in Contra Costa County, we do not have the jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute such cases.  To directly report a suspected case of animal abuse or neglect, you must contact your local animal control department to begin a warranted investigation.

Consider this... Just this year alone, 3-4 million animals will be euthanized - more than a quarter-million each month, 405 each hour,  one every nine seconds.   A devastating number of unwanted and unplanned animals are born each year without the guarantee of a forever home.  Each home found for these animals means one less home for an already-alive shelter animal facing euthanasia.  If you could do something simple to end this needless destruction, wouldn't you?

PLEASE spay, neuter, adopt and spread the word.  We can all make a difference in the lives of these animals.
